The Art of Running with Steve Norris
Owner Steve Norris, “Norrie,” has been a staple of the Fairfield County running community for nearly 40 years. Norris turned his passion for running, coupled with his athletic expertise and coaching experience, into a successful business venture. Now Runner’s Roost serve the same community that first established Norris’ running career.
A graduate of New Canaan High School, Norris ran cross country and track. He was a CIAC Class M State Champion in the 1000 m. and 180 m. hurdles. At DePauw University, Norris was MVP of the cross country team in 1965. His 4×440 m. relay team still holds the school record.
In the spring of 1976, Norris landed a job at Darien High School as a boys assistant track coach. That fall, he became the coach for the girls cross country team. In 1978, Norris opened Runner’s Roost at 425 Post Road in Darien.
As a veteran coach of the Darien High School girls cross country and track teams, Norris bolstered the program to numerous winning seasons, FCIAC and State championships. Under his leadership, countless Darien runners have gone on to elite collegiate running programs at universities across the country, from Harvard to West Point and Villanova. In 2013, Norris was named Fairfield County Sports Commission Darien Sports Person of the Year.
Norris maintains a loyal following in the running community. His Runner’s Roost staff are knowledgable, friendly, and well-trained in the running, training, and racing industry. At Runner’s Roost, you can find the very best in running footwear, from neutral and stability trainers to competition shoes for both indoor and outdoor track and field events. Runner’s Roost also carries the latest in apparel and essential running accessories.
In 2016, Norris moved his business to Goodwives Shopping Center in an effort to be more accessible to customers and provide a more personal running experience in the heart of Darien.
